Last week, I explained our FirstFruits fund. This week, I’m excited to tell you about some of the things that we’re currently doing with it.
Beverly
If you’ve been around during the last couple of weeks, you’ve heard a lot of talk about Beverly. Until just a few weeks ago, Beverly was a homeless woman who was befriended by several in our community. Due to some serious grassroots efforts, Beverly is now living in an apartment and working part-time at Peoria Pizza Works. Officially, the church is helping Beverly with her rent for the next six months.
Vicky
Jeff & Jessey Eagan are friends of several people in our community. Hailing from Pekin, Jeff & Jessey moved to Jordan, where they now teach English to 2nd graders. In the process of tutoring some students, they became aware of an 8-year old girl, Vicky, who has cancer and needs surgery. However, in Jordan, as with many other countries, you can’t have the surgery without having the cash upfront.
While we can’t respond to every situation like this, we felt that helping this little girl was something that God was leading us to do, so we sent some money to this Egyptian family living in Jordan.
Ongoing Opportunities
Recently, we focused our community efforts in two directions: giving assistance to the South Side Mission’s office in Riverwest and seeing to the needs of the homeless. In both of these ventures, we are looking and listening for God to reveal significant needs that we can address!
